FAQ

We charge by the square inch. This is calculated by multiplying length x width. This will give you the square inches of your quilt. Times that number by the rate for the pattern you choose. Example: A quilt top that measures 60″x82″ = 4920 square inches x .02(2 cents per square inch) = $98.40 for quilting.

When you bring in your item for us to quilt for you we will walk you through various steps to help you decide how your project will be finished.  First we help you pick out a backing for your quilt if you have not provided one. We will then discuss with you the different options for batting. Next we will help you pick out a thread color that we will use for the quilting process. Lastly we will walk you through our pattern guide of over 90 edge to edge patterns you can choose from. After that leave it with us and we will professionally finish it on our Handi Quilter Amara utilizing the Pro Stitcher Premium software.

We are usually less than a two week turnaround. If you are in a hurry we do offer expedited services.

Of course! We’ve all been new to quilting at some point. Mountain State Quilting believes that quilters of all skill levels deserve top quality quilting services. If we find any imperfections that may hinder us from completing your quilt in a professional manner we will contact you and figure out together what the best option is to complete your project.

The backing should be the same type of fabric as the fabric in the top. If the top is 100% cotton your best choice for backing is 100% cotton to avoid puckers.

We have used stretchy fabrics on the back(fleece, minky etc.) with success. Keep in mind although we take every precaution tucks or puckering can occur during quilting.

The best answer is probably not. Centering a quilt on backing horizontally is fairly simple and how we tend to load quilts normally. Centering them vertically is much more difficult. We won’t take a quilt where you need the quilt specifically placed on the backing. There are just to many variables involved.

Clip loose threads from the back of the quilt top. This is especially important if light color fabrics were used in the quilt top as threads can show through the top if left untrimmed.

We reccomend squaring the quilt top before quilting. All the rollers in the machine we attach your quilt to is perfectly square, if your quilt is not squared it can lead to fullness.

Borders should lay flat. Wavy borders are a result of having excess fabric in the border and can lead to puckers during quilting.

Anchor all seams that will remain outside of border. As we handle your quilt seams on the border can become loose and may open if not secured properly.

If the outside border is made of pieced blocks stay stitch all the way around the edge of the quilt at 1/8″. This will prevent seams from pulling apart. Press the top so it is wrinkle free and all seams lay flat.

If you are providing backing or batting it needs to be 10″ wider than your quilt top to give ample room to load into the quilt machine. Example: quilt top is 70″x70″ so your backing and batting needs to be 80″x80″ minimum. Do not pin or baste the layers we need them separate.

Quilts should be free of any embellishments, beading etc. Those items should be added after the top is quilted.
